MUSLIMS around Worcestershire came together to celebrate the Islamic festival of Eid-ul-Adha on Saturday.

Worshippers gathered at the mosque on Tallow Hill and the Al-Madina Jami Masjid and Worcester Muslim Centre on Tolladine Road to taking part in the festival, which commemorates Ibrahim’s willingness to sacrifice his son to God. This festival also marks the end of the Hajj pilgrimage to Mecca.

Muhammad Mosnul Haque, chairman of Al-Madina Jami Masjid and Worcester Muslim Centre, said: "Muslims celebrate two great festivals annually — Eid-ul-Fitr and Eid-ul-Adha. The first is the festival that follows the month of Ramadan when the fast is broken, and the second occurs about two months later.

"Muslims make a special effort to wear new clothes or their nicest outfits, attend a prayer service at their local mosque and to listen to a sermon. They also personally greet or send paper or electronic Eid cards to family members, friends and businesses associates and give gifts to children.

"On behalf of Al-Madina Jami Masjid and Worcester Muslim Centre, I'd like to wish everyone Eid Mubarak."
