A DRAGON boat team in Pershore has raised money for charity in a show of solidarity with one of its participants.
Jacqui John joined Pershore Greyhounds Dragon Boat Group to help her cope with the loss of her son Nathan John, who died suddenly in February, and her fellow club members decided to support her during this difficult time by fundraising for a good cause that was close to her son’s heart.
The money has been donated to Touch 1,000 Lives, an organisation which focuses on overcoming child slavery, poverty and suffering in the urban slums of India and the Philippines.
Keith Burton, founder of the dragon boat group, said: “We all thought it would be nice to give some money to the charity.
“It is not a fantastic amount we have raised but we did what we could and I know Jacquie was thrilled by our efforts.”
The Pershore Greyhounds is a non-competitive group which welcomes people of all ages and abilities and provides “a great way to keep fit, develop confidence, make new friends and have fun”.
It organises a number of social and fundraising events throughout the year and also takes part in friendly races.
