FIVE Worcestershire groups are celebrating after receiving a share of more than £40,000.

The 10th Worcester Scout Group, the 3rd Worcester Scout Group, ASPIE, Bredon Community Play and Recreation and Malvern-based What Makes You Different Makes You Beautiful all received funding from the Big Lottery Fund's Awards for All scheme.

The 10th Worcester Scout Group, based in Crown East, received £5,476 which will be used to buy a box trailer and security equipment to allow the group to more easily move around camping equipment.

The 3rd Worcester Scout Group will use their £9,180 to renovate the kitchen at their Rainbow Hill base.

Scout leader Anna Humphries said: "We were so overwhelmed when we heard that our application for funds had been successful. The kids are so excited. The kitchen is in desperate need of renovating as it's mouldy and a health hazard. But by transforming the kitchen, the children can acquire basic cooking skills by learning how to use a kitchen safely and hygienically. They're planning an open day where the public can sample their food."

Bredon Community Play and Recreation have been given £9,885 to run a range of community events, activities and volunteer training opportunities.

ASPIE, a Worcester-based self-help and motivation group for adults with Asperger's Syndrome, received a boost of £9,475 which will allow them to provide website design and micro-business training for their service users, helping them gain skills and make them more employable.

Malvern-based What Makes You Different Makes You Beautiful was given £9,953, which will fund more coffee mornings, play sessions and allow a range of speakers to be brought in to talk to the group.

Kimberly Philpotts set up the group at the end of last year to offer support for families with children who have challenging disorders, inspired by experiences with her own son, Archie.

She said: "We were just over the moon to find out we had received this money. We are going to put on more activities for the group."

The Worcestershire groups joined 81 other organisations across the West Midlands in receiving a share of a total of £791,045 from the Big Lottery Fund.
