VISITORS to Bishop Perowne CE College’s open evening were given the chance to sit in an F Type Project 7 Jaguar.

The car, which costs £135,000 and is able to reach 60mph in 3.9 seconds, was lent to the school for the evening from Jaguar Land Rover in Castle Bromwich, where it is produced.

The evening had a Back to the Future theme with each school department putting on a different activity that looked to the past and encouraged visitors to think about the future.

These included Modern Foreign Languages demonstrating where different languages could be used in the future, ICT holding a quiz celebrating the technology used in the Back to the Future trilogy of films and the English department creating a time capsule preserving the thoughts and ideas of 2015 for future generations.

The science department took inspiration from the films and demonstrated how a hoverboard could work using a hairdryer and ping pong ball; food technology went back to basics creating pastries from recipes Grandma would use; and the music and dance departments collaborated to perform a routine to the Back to the Future sound track.

Mark Pollard, Headteacher at Bishop Perowne CE College, said: “At Bishop Perowne we have an Endeavour Forever school philosophy, so we are constantly encouraging our students to think ahead and do the absolute best they can.

"The F Type Jaguar certainly showed visitors what luxury hard work and determination can achieve and we hope that being able to sit in it and taking part in the various activities helped inspire and excite future students about the move up to secondary school.”

The open day took place on Thursday, September 17.
