UPDATE:

IT COULD take "several weeks" to identify a man whose body was found in a tent on waste ground near New Road, Worcester.

Police are still working to identify the man, who was found on Tuesday morning.

Officers from West Mercia Police were called at around 11.30am over concern for the safety of a man, but on arrival found he was dead.

A section of tow path near the River Severn, roughly opposite Worcester Cathedral, was cordoned off by officers on Monday afternoon.

Police are not treating the death as suspicious.

A spokesman for West Mercia Police said: "A post mortem examination is due to be carried out on the body following which forensic identification will take place.

"This could take several weeks."

Speaking on Tuesday, the spokesman said: "It [the body] was not far from the tow path but he wasn't on the tow path. It wasn't in full view."

A report is being prepared for the coroner.

A spokesman for Worcestershire County Cricket Club, which is based at New Road, confirmed it was aware of the incident.

However it said the man's body was not found on its property.
