A GOOD Samaritan 'rugby tackled' a robber to the ground and left him bloody when the suspect snatched a pensioner’s handbag in broad daylight.

More details are emerging about the bravery of one mystery man who foiled a robbery in Sansome Street in Worcester at around 2.50pm on Thursday.

The actions of this public-spirited individual led to the arrest of a 27-year-old man on suspicion of robbery but police need more help from this witness and the victim herself to ensure justice is done.

The alleged robber was left bloodied by the incident but DI Stuart Murphy of West Mercia's Proactive CID stressed that the man was not in any trouble and, indeed, his actions had been commended by other witnesses who had come forward following an appeal in the Worcester News.

DI Stuart Murphy said: “A number of witnesses have come forward and offered really good information. However, we still haven’t found the victim.

“We are also trying to identify a man in a light-coloured hatchback car in Sansome Street who got out of the car and took hold of the suspect and pulled him to the floor.

“This man jumped out of the car and rugby tackled him (the suspect) to the ground.

“He is not in any trouble at all. We would just like to identify him.”

The victim is estimated to be a woman about 60 years old with blue trousers. A man of similar age to the woman, possibly her husband or partner and wearing a grey bomber jacket, was also seen to give chase.

DI Murphy added: “It’s a unique situation where we have apprehended someone but we desperately need to find the victim to make sure she is okay. We want to check on her welfare but also bring the suspect to justice."
