VOLUNTEERS are set to roll their sleeves up and get stuck in with cleaning up churches in Droitwich.

The Big Clear Up event will take place at St Nicholas' Church, St Augustines Church, St Andrew's Church and St Peter's Church, during the winter months.

Workers will pull up weeds, unblocking guttering and generally give the buildings a good clean, with help from the Society for the Protection of Ancient Buildings (SPAB).

Richard Rose, warden at St Augustine's Church, said: "Last year was a great success and we all really enjoyed ourselves. We are very grateful to Kate Andrew from SPAB for coming along to help us and being willing to get her hands dirty."

Among the volunteers will be children and staff from Cutnall Green First School, who also helped out last year.

Anyone who is interested in lending a hand, can come along to one of the four clean up events, held between 9.30am and 12.30pm.

The first event will take place at St Nicholas' Church, in Ombersley Road, on Tuesday, November 22. The next will be at St Augustine's Church, in Church Road, on Monday, November 28, then at St Andrew's Church on Monday, December 5.

The last session will be held in the new year, at St Peter's Church in Church Lane on Saturday, January 14.
