A NOVELTY dog show is set to take place at Worcester's rescue and rehoming centre which offers a lifeline to neglected, ill-treated and abandoned animals.

The RSPCA Worcester and Mid-Worcestershire Branch is hosting the show at their new branch Animal Rescue and Rehoming Centre at The Holdings, Holdings Lane, Broomhall, Kempsey, near Worcester (WR5 3FP) on Sunday, July 9 from 10.30am to 4pm.

The centre rehomes abused, neglected and unwanted dogs, cats, rabbits and other small animals from the Worcestershire area.

Judging will be from 11am and the judge will be Malvern vet, Richard Chamings.

There are 14 classes, including best rescue dog, best veteran over seven years, bad hair day and the dog most like its owner. Prizes and rosettes will be awarded to fourth place in each class.

There will be stalls, including refreshments, raffle, bric-a-brac, lucky dip, tombola, ice cream and much more. Field parking will be available.

The day is also a chance to support the local branch of the RSPCA and see the new animal home on the five acre site which opened in October, including a state-of-the-art cattery.

More than 160 cats and kittens have been rehomed since then.

The rabbit house for 12 small animals will be built later this year and it is hoped that the dog isolation unit will also be in this year’s programme.

This would mean the RSPCA can have two dogs on site, probably the long stayers, currently at the private boarding kennels, from where they have rehomed the dogs for the past six years.

Once they have raised sufficient funds, they can then start the last phase - the reception building, with veterinary room and grooming room and the kennel block to provide 20 large dog kennels with runs and exercise areas.

Supporters can “Buy A Brick” on the day and help to start the kennel building.
