'fake Tree' Mast Approved

LAKE district planners have approved plans for the first `fake tree' mast to be erected in the National Park.

Mobile phone company Orange Pcs Ltd has been allowed to put up a 20-metre mast on a remote site at Hawkrigg Farm, Far Sawrey, to give coverage around the village and across Windermere to Storrs.

Planners heard that the mast - in the shape of a fake pine tree -would be situated in a hollow adjacent to some coniferous trees.

A metal cabin is also proposed within a compound enclosed by a metal fence.

On a recent site visit members of the LDNPA's development control committee thought the mast was well sited.
