Cold comfort for bees

BRENTFORD braved freezing conditions on Tuesday night to register a hard-fought point against lowly Mansfield Town.

The Bees have failed to win a league match since The Stags came to Griffin Park in December and they were knocked out of the FA Cup and LDV Vans Trophy at the end of January.

With two home matches cancelled during that period, Brentford have slipped away from the play-off places, but a 0-0 draw at a snow-covered Field Mill ground kept them in touch with the top six.

And the break allowed a number of key players to recover from injuries, with Stephen Evans and Jamie Fullarton returning to their midfield berths and Leon Constantine, Eddie Hutchinson and Martin Rowlands all made it to the bench after recent problems.

The Bees' best chances came in the second-half with Stephen Hunt and Rowan Vine coming closest.

Wally Downes' side will be hoping for more luck on the weather front when Crewe Alexandra visit Griffin Park on Saturday.
