Bosch award for top city plumber

A ST John's plumbing and heating specialist has been honoured in the fifth annual Worcester Bosch Environment 2010 Awards.

The awards, which took place at the firm's Warndon, Worcester, base yesterday, were set to challenge contestants to "think energy, think environment" when selecting a new or replacement hot water boiler.

There were a number of categories, the main one of which was installation.

IS Plumbing, which is owned by Ian Breakwell and Stuart Joyner, was a runner-up in this section, beating off competition from thousands of other entries.

The winner came from Essex.

Mr Breakwell was delighted with the achievement and said plumbers were not always given the recognition they deserved.

"It's always nice to get recognition for the quality of your work, as most of the time plumbers are given a bad name," he said.

"The Bosch Awards are a great initiative and to be named runner-up was quite an achievement.

"I always attempt to install the most energy efficient systems I can because I genuinely believe in the efforts being made to address climate change."

The awards saw 12 heating installer firms from across the UK making it to the final.

Richard Tolley of Ecoplumb, which is based at Powick, near Worcester, was also one of the finalists.

Worcester Bosch's Neil Schofield said: "We were really impressed with the quality of the entries we had right throughout 2004 but we were particularly impressed with Ian's entry.

"He's a very deserving runner-up in this category."

The event was supported the Energy Saving Trust.
