PEOPLE can find out more about Redditch’s rich heritage as part of an event being held in the town centre on Thursday, September 9.
Digging Up the Past, which is being held in Market Place from 10am-1pm, will give visitors the chance to find out more about the history of the area and put their questions to a conservation officer and an archaeologist. Children will also be able to hunt for buried treasure in an archaeology sandpit.
The event has been organised by Redditch Council and Worcestershire County Council as part of this year’s English Heritage National Heritage Open Days.
Council portfolio holder for planning, economic development and transport, Councillor Jinny Pearce, said: “This is a great chance for people to talk to some experts about Redditch’s rich past and find out more about some of the fascinating finds that have been discovered around the borough.”
Councillor Derek Prodger MBE, the county council’s cabinet member for transport and safe environment, added: "It is always interesting to see the history of an area revealed, this open day will allow residents to find out a bit more about where they live."
National Heritage open days run each year for four days in September and are intended to celebrate England’s architecture and culture by offering free access to properties that are usually closed to the public or normally charge for admission.
Details of Redditch’s event and others across the West Midlands are available online at www.heritageopendays.org.uk.
