As I write this much of the UK is covered with a thick blanket of heavy snow. It started on Wednesday night and hasn’t stopped much since, and ironically where I live in the Midlands
(Worcester) we usually escape it with the brunt of any bad weather affecting the surrounding areas due to the shelter of the Malvern Hills and the city being in a dip. Not so this time.
When I woke up yesterday morning I had BBC News on and I was really shocked to see that they were doing the outside weather forecast broadcasts from none other than – Worcester! The snow had
been particularly bad there, nearly 9cm recorded in Malvern which was the second worst place for snow in the country apart from the Brecon Beacons.
So because of the snow schools were closed, cars abandoned, public transport in chaos, flights and airports closed (as I type this I have just heard that Birmingham Airport is closed again) and in
short, we are just not used to dealing with this kind of weather. Dave Bradley on BBC Hereford and Worcester abandoned his car in Malvern this afternoon and rang in to the station via his mobile
phone to report on how bad the conditions were there!
Also in the news today, I was surprised to hear about the death of Ian Richardson, who played Francis Urquhart in the BBC Series “House of Cards”. He was only 72 and died suddenly. Not
long after that, I heard that Anna Nicole Smith had died too.
They are certainly dropping like flies at the moment!
