Tonight saw the debut gig of Pippa Jennings, Worcester’s brightest up and coming female vocalist to date at the Virgin Tavern in Worcester. She started off her set with the popular track
“Sound of the Underground” by Girls Aloud, where she brought a unique and fresh energy and style.
Her natural talent and charismas shone through even from this early stage as she went effortlessly from track to track as she covered songs such as “Walking in Memphis” by Marc Cohn,
“Black Velvet” by Allanah Myles and more.
The audience were very appreciative and after some initial slight teething problems with the backing track system, Pippa wowed the audience even more with an excellent version of “Stuck in the
Middle With You” by Steelers Wheel. Sadly, due to the technical hitches the chilled out tones of “A Whiter Shade of Pale” by Procol Harum had to be abandoned, however, Pippa took
the whole thing completely in her stride like the professional that she is and engaged with her audience with ease while the problem was rectified.
Her set list tonight comprised of tracks old and new, tracks that were identifiable and appealed to any age group, which is part of what makes Pippa Jennings so special. Her rendition of
“Stop” by Sam Brown was enough to make the hairs stand up on the back of your neck with the sheer power and exuberance of her voice, and through this track and others Pippa was able to
demonstrate the true power of her natural vocal ability.
She then went into a perfect cover version of “Summer of 69” by Bryan Adams, her vocals flawless and her natural talent evident yet again. By the end of her second set, the majority of
the audience were dancing in the aisles, dancing with each other and even head-banging and doing air guitar to “Teenage Kicks” by the Undertones. John Peel would have been proud!
Pippa is a rising talent on the pub entertainment circuit and a name to look out for in the future. You know when you’ve arrived when you have the audience doing air guitar to what you are
doing, and Pippa has well and truly arrived!
