Not a good summer so far and there is still a long time to go before the new season starts. I won’t be getting a Warrior fix until the first pre-season friendly at home on 1st
September.
There has been some rugby to watch from the Southern Hemisphere, with 3 of the Warriors new signings all involved in the Air New Zealand Cup at present. Rico Gear is playing for Tasman, Greg
Rawlinson for North Harbour and Sam Tuitupou is Captain of Auckland. It’s interesting to watch rugby from club level in New Zealand as you get to see the strength in depth of the All Blacks and
it’s a bit scary to be honest.
So glad that Sixways is not any where near the Cricket ground or Pitchcroft, to see both flooded again this summer is a great shame. I am a cricket fan too and to see the damage the flood water has
done to the New Road ground is really sad. I hope that there will be some financial support from the ECB as the losses the County Cricket Club must have suffered will be crippling.
Back on the subject of Warriors Rugby, the season tickets should be sent out next month which will fuel the Warriors fans anticipation for the new season. It’s gong to be very interesting to
see which teams stand up best during the World Cup period of the Guinness Premiership. The Warriors have 3 definite absentees during that time. Chris Horsman in the Welsh squad, Samoan Loki Crichton
and Fijian Netani Talei but there could be 3 more as 'Aisea Havili, Aleki Lutui and Tevita Taumoepeau are all in the Tongan WC training squad. What with the 3 New Zealanders not being available until
their Air New Zealand cup campaigns are over, which could be late October, our already small squad will even smaller. I am getting a little concerned about the outcome of the first 6 Premiership
games, as last years start was a complete disaster. We have some of the Premiership’s top teams in those 6 games too. They will be short several players on WC duty but it’s going to be
very tough.
