I have been laid up recovering from dislocating my toe so didn’t go to Twickenham for the Middlesex 7’s this year, and I missed The Warriors getting to the final and losing by just 1
point!!
They won the sartorial prize with their bright orange Acorns kit and every Warrior fan should be even more enthused about the start of the season as the level of commitment shown by the squad of
players was brilliant. In 7’s, it’s most definitely no pain no gain, and the Warriors 7’s squad had one or 2 of our more experienced players who know exactly how much pain they
would have to put themselves through and didn’t shirk from it. The younger guys are always going to run themselves into the ground, but to see a good number of our senior players show that much
commitment bodes very well for the season.
The Warriors were in a very difficult group on paper, last years winners Wasps, and the previous year’s winners Gloucester. But they were both beaten and then beat Bath in the ¼ final and a
very fancied London Irish side in the semi. They met Newcastle Falcons in the final, who have spent the summer playing 7’s competitions all around the North East so were a very well drilled
squad. The Warriors lost the game in the 2nd quarter of the game when they shipped 15 unopposed points and half time came with the score at 15 – 0. A good 2nd half showing brought the final
score to 19 – 20. Close but no silverware.
I, along with many other Warrior fans are daring to hope for greater things this season, which is tempered by the fact that so much went wrong last season, but if the level of commitment, skill and
fitness levels demonstrated by the boys that played on the HQ turf on Saturday are translated into the 15’s game…. Well who knows what the club can achieve…
OOooo and I was on the telly too!! Sky did a promotioanl piece on the start of the coming season and they had a shot of some Warriors fans and there I was, along with my daughter and the guys from
the Southstand Choir....Fame at last!
