The wind down and build up to the start of the season.

I think the players are pretty much winding down the pre-season training now that there is 2 weeks to go to the first Premiership match against Bath at The Rec. (To which I have tickets!!) At the same time there have been a gaggle of events building towards the start of the Guinness Premiership on 15th September.

The Warriors had a press day on 22nd August where all the players were photographed and the sponsors got to meet all of them. There were some supporters there as some were invited to meet the Academy players in recognition of the support the Worcester Warriors Supporters Club give to the Academy. There was a Development fund set up which give funds to our up and coming players so some of the contributors to the fund got to meet the players they support. My daughter, Jen, was one of them. Despite being a student, she still gives some money each month to help develop the youth talent.

Pat Sanderson and Mike Ruddock were summoned to Twickenham on Thursday 30th August, along with all the other Premiership captains and Director’s of Rugby, for the official launch of the Premiership season, yet more photos and interviews!!

Pat has signed a new contract which has to be the best news yet. Yes we have signed some great players, but Pat has a massive influence on the club. He is one of Rugby’s great leaders, put that together with his tremendous work ethic, world class talent and a really nice bloke, we are all chuffed to bits he has committed to the Warriors until 2010.

Mike Ruddock, Clive Griffiths, Tony Boddy and Kier Hanson all came to a talk rugby event on Wednesday Evening with the Supporters club. It was a very informative and interesting evening with all the guests giving us an insight to the goings on during pre-season and what is to come.

So this weekend the pre-season friendly against London Irish (The Exiles), a double header to boot. The Academy took on the Stourbridge, and then the Warriors played The Exiles in the main match a 4pm. Another long day in the East Stand but I think I survived My toe is a lot better after dislocating it and no one stood on it thankfully.

Both games were very entertaining with the Academy putting a very good performance in beat in Stourbridge 29 – 3. The whole team looked really fit and raring to go, and put Stourbridge to the sword after they opened with their 3 pts of the game.

The 2nd game went the way of the Irish 16 – 23 but there was some very entertaining rugby to watch. The Warriors were looking to get the ball wide much more than in recent history and took some risks, some of which lead to The Exiles scoring a couple of trys. But hey… Rome wasn’t built in a day and come the Premiership season there will always be plan B… Back to the forward domination we know we can rely on.

Got tickets to the first 2 away games and really looking forward to a more positive season…

So “COME ON YOU WARRRIORS!!!!!
