It is nearly that time of the year when we look at your new years resolutions....so what will yours be this year? Are you planning to make the same one you did last year? You wont be surprised to learn that new year when people want to start a fresh is one of my busiest times. Whether its giving up smoking, going on a diet, spending more time with the kids the only way you will will succeed is to have a powerfull incentive - and back it up with bags of will power.

It is a worrying thought that we have to use a calender date to decide that we need a kick-start to get our lives in order. But new year's resolutions are expected so the likely hood is that there will be someone else in the same boat as you. Diets after christmas excesses are common at this time of year - and there are thousands of diets to choose from. The bad news is that there is no magic formula - but as i said you need two things an incentive (loosing weight = feel better about yourself / look sexier so you can find a new partner or rekindle things with the one you already have) and will power - how much do you really want to do this? Are you doing it because you think you should or are you doing it because somebody has pressured you into it?

If you are satisfied with your lot in life then i wont say you are lucky but you have done well to get yourself in that situation. Are you happy with your health are you happy with your partner? Your job? Your work life balance? Then FANTASTIC! Please share your secret with everybody else!

One of my new years resolutions is to make more time for my friends. Work is important as ultimately it pays the bills - but i find i only enjoy my job if i am enjoying life at the same time. I get a different buzz or enjoyment from spending time with close friends rather than family - they say you can chose your friends but not your family. You can do things and share things with your friends that you wouldnt with your family.

The complex social dynamics of todays society lean towards an emphasis on friendships as families tend to be very extended nowadays. People also find their friendships changing whereas many years ago people tended to be born, grow up and live in the same area for most of their lives the globalisation of the working environment and flexible domestic arrangements have meant people are more geographically mobile and it is hard to keep in touch with people you were once close to. As you spend less time with them, and more with your new friends, you begin to put the frienships into perspective.

Good luck with your new years resolutions
james
