I have been a Warriors supporter for 4 years and a season ticket holder for the last 2 and go to everything!!.... Well nearly everything. I miss the away games in Europe (and no thats not
because I have a travel ban thank you) and the very occasional domestic away game. I pretty much live and breathe rugby, my Dad played and reffed so it's all his fault...
I am married to a Welshman so the 6 nations is all ways a 'fun' affair, have 2 children, both at Uni, one of which, Jen, has been successfully brainwashed so is also a season ticket holder of 2
years.
Top Warriors moment was beating Tigers last season. Best ever Rugby moment was the Heineken Cup Final last season, Munster v Biarritz at the Millennium Stadium, which was totally brilliant. Rugby
hero.... Peter Winterbottom. Fav Warroir Kai Horstmann.
Well that’s how I look at it anyway. Losing to the side at the top of the Premiership and getting a losing bonus point. It does mean that the Warriors are still without a win in the Premiership at home this season, but I get the feeling that when it does happen, (look out Bath!!) that it will be like the flood gates opening and Sixways will be the fortress it was in the past.
That’s a ticket for the Tigers game on Saturday??? It’s going to be another of those must win games for the Warriors up against the in form team in the Premiership. Tigers have a very talented squad and with some of their number away on International duty it will be interesting to see the make up of their team. The Warriors will be without scrum half Matt Powell through a week’s suspension, which is a bit of a shame as he has been playing very well of late.
Should there be promotion and relegation to and from the Premiership, which is the question facing English Rugby. Well one of the many, but it seems to be the thorniest if you look around the Rugby fraternity message boards.
Rugby Union in England has been in turmoil since it went professional over 10 years ago. The list of contentious issues between the clubs, who run the Guinness Premiership and the Rugby Football Union (RFU), is as long as your arm. Needless to say most of them are related to power and money.
That's what some of the reports of Friday night's game against Wasps had to say about the game. Well most Warrior fans I know didn't think so. I was on the edge of my seat for most of the game. It went their way then ours. Both defences were just phenomenal to say the least, some of the tackles were bone crunching.
The Warriors have added a Samoan Center/wing to their ranks this week, Dominic Feaunati from London Irish. He's a big powerful player who used to play Rugby League. There have been several successful transitions from League to Union, Jason Robinson for one. I would expect him to start on the bench this Friday, a bit of impact to come on in the 2nd half perhaps.
LOTS and lots of noise... So if you are off to the game make sure you’re up to yelling your lungs out for 80 minutes. Noisy support always pushes players on the better things and can act as a 16th man. Both Pat Sanderson and John Brain have extolled the virtues of a vociferous Sixways crowd, so if we want to help keep Premiership Rugby in Worcester come to the game in very good voice. The Wasps players and support need to be sent home with 'Warriors, Warriors' ringing in their ears.
Viadana 16 Warriors 19. Not a lot of meaning to the match and Worcester rested a few players, which gave some of the others some game time. The Academy players have been producing some good results so this was an occasion for them to play in the first team.
At Sixways on Saturday, the Warriors didn't win but they were up against a club side who are a class above any I have seen play before and that includes all the current premiership sides. Their second 15 had 10 internationals in it!!! The Warriors can't match that sort of strength in depth but few clubs can. That's why Clermont Auvergne are 2nd in the French league...But for the Warriors, Gavin Quinnell scored again, he is our top scorer and a legend, as did Drew Hickey and penalty try....
The guys played so well on Sunday at Adams Park, they frightened the Wasps to say the least. It wasn't a win but the bonus point was more than we have ever come away with from there before.
That’s what is next for the Warriors. A very tough match to keep the momentum going from the win at Saints on Monday. There will be the usual core of support going down to High Wycombe to shout and sing our heads off at every opportunity. The away Warriors supporter is a very noisy species, of which I am one, and very proud of our selves we are too. It’s great when a player or players turn and smile at us as we make as much noise as we possibly can.
Next to Sixways has to be Franklin’s Gardens, home to Northampton Saints. The ground is one of the best Rugby arenas in the country, coupled with some of the friendliest bunch of supporters it’s always a pleasure to go and watch the Warriors play there. The Warriors have a habit of winning there, in fact we had never lost at the Gardens.
For now...??? I have to say it's going to be a long way back from the lowly position that the Warriors find themselves in at the moment. Half way through the season and the record in the league is played 11, won 1, lost 10, with 9 points which is 9 behind the team above us... Who we play on New Years Day, Northampton Saints. It has been a particularly frustrating time at Sixways for all concerned, players, management and fans. We all hoped for so much more from this season, building on last season's 8th place. But it looks like it will be a different league that the Warriors will be playing next season.
Will the game be on or not… I hope so as the Warriors are on a roll and need to keep the momentum.
Wednesday 6th Dec… Well this was a bit of a cross over with Rosa’s blog in that the evening was organised like a speed dating session. It was quite challenging for several fans to talk to 5 Warriors at a time in 10 minutes or so. Very confusing!!! Still the boys seemed to be happy with the format, they got to meet loads more fans and didn’t get collared all evening by the same 1 or 2 supporters. It also meant that they couldn’t form clumps in the corners either. So a result all round.
It's been a trial of late as any one of them will tell you. Now don't get me wrong, we're used to the emotional rollercoaster that is part and parcel of being one of the Six ways faithful but after 8 straight losses it was getting hard to keep that faith. This makes the win against Saracens on 26th Nov such a relief!
