I recently had a meeting with the Pershore and Upton-upon-Severn branch of the National Farmers Union (NFU). Harriett Baldwin, the Conservative parliamentary candidate for West Worcestershire, was also present.

Over Christmas, I had the opportunity to visit both the Malvern Community Hospital and the new hospital in Pershore. The physical contrast between the two could not have been more apparent – the ageing Victorian building versus the gleaming steel and glass fronted 21st Century construction.

THIS will be the last time I will write this column in 2006. Next year we will have a new Prime Minister. It is not a bad time therefore to take a reading on how Mr Blair has performed.
