Mick Donovan
Director of Basketball for the Worcester Wolves
I am co-founder of the Wolves in 2000 with businessman and Wolves Chairman Roger Clarke. My current role within the club is to oversee Basketball related matters and liaise with key personnel. View
of the Wolves “The most exciting thing about the Wolves is the amount of distance we have covered in such a short time after starting with absolutely no foundation in 2000 to our current BBL
status. We have a Chairman that actually loves the sport and is always prepared to take up a challenge if there is a chance of moving forward. Additionally, our coaching in the community scheme is
now reaching thousands of youngsters. We have a small group of great people within the club who make a massive contribution on a daily basis; and the loyal Wolves fans who always seem to find a
positive - offer a great alternative to traditional sport fans.”
I am one of approximately 20 Senior Basketball Coaches in the United Kingdom and in the formative years for the Wolves was involved with the ‘game coaching’ of the team in England
Basketball League Divisions one and two.
I am a Principal Lecturer in Coaching Science at the University of Worcester and am involved in research areas ranging from performance analysis to sport and education working together. I co-ordinate
the thriving University Basketball program that now attracts applications for scholarships from all over the world (current BUSA Champions for the past two seasons and runners up in the World Inter
University Games to Lenningrad State University, Russia 2006).
I originate from Liverpool and am an armchair fan of Everton Football Club. I am married to Liz and have two daughters: Katie and Megan.
My philosophy in Sport “We always try to be the Best We Can Be.
My philosophy in Life “Live Life to the Full without deliberately doing anyone else any harm”

What makes a leader?
Tony Pawson in the 'Football Managers' (1973) once wrote - As they wave to the crowd there is no mistaking that these are the father figures embodying the hopes of their side and their supporters. Some will call them genius if their team win, fool if they lose; though the game may be decided by the lucky bounce of a ball or the inspiration of an individual player.
