I KNOW that the impact of the credit crunch and higher global oil prices is beginning to be felt on jobs.
AN interesting question was thrown at me when I spoke to the Rotary Club two weeks ago.
LIKE the vast majority of parents, I have been busy preparing for the new school term.
THIS July marks 10 years since Labour voted to bring in the national minimum wage. I well remember the House of Commons sitting throughout the night in a battle to pass this legislation
Sixty not out – the NHS is going well. This week the NHS celebrates its 60th birthday. Despite opposition from the BMA, a Labour government created a world’s first.
Next week Parliament considers proposals to toughen up counter terrorism legislation. I won’t risk the safety and security of local people going about their day-to-day activities by weakening our security forces.
The threat from international terrorism is real and severe. It shows no sign of diminishing. The director general of the security service said recently that the police and security agencies are currently dealing with some 30 known plots and more than 200 groupings or networks, totalling about 2,000 individuals. As we have seen, the terrorist threat is aimed at causing mass casualties with no warning, and with no limits on method – including the use of suicide attacks.

Over the months, and yes, years ahead we need to debate sensibly what we can do to reduce the risk of repeat floods.
Earlier this week, the Prime Minister and the Secretary of State for Justice outlined plans for a new constitutional settlement that entrusts more power to Parliament and the people.
In 2005 the response from the people of Worcester to Live 8 and the Make Poverty History campaign showed how we all wanted action to improve the lives of millions of the poorest people in the world.
