Hi, I'm Mark. I live near Malvern since moving to the area 7 years ago.I am married and have three wonderful daughters.

I shall be blogging on local environmental issues of the day and sharing some of my experiences as I attempt to reduce my own environmental impact. I hope my blog will stimualte some debate and would
welcome all feedback.

I have worked in the environmental arena for nearly 20 years and first moved to this area to work for an environmental charity in Worceste. I then move on to work for a national environmental charity
focussing on issues such as climate change and wasteful consumption.

I get annoyed by unrealistic solutions which may help save the planet but are beyond the price range of
the majority. Simple practical solutions or changes in behaviour are often the best!

Flooding and the planning system

The recent floods have dominated the news this week – the pictures of flooded homes have been awful. I can’t imagine the trauma and anxiety those who have been affected must be going through particularly with more rain on the way.

Are Renewables the Answer?

I am often asked if we have the capability of producing the majority of our energy from renewable sources. I believe that the answer is yes, we can, without the need to cover vast areas of our magnificent countryside with wind turbines. How? The first priority has to be energy efficiency to cut demand in the first instance.

Our Rubbish - Wrong Priorities?

This is the first opportunity I have had to update my blog for a few weeks having just returned from holiday. During the last few days there has been a great deal of media coverage on the issue of rubbish and how the government is aiming to encourage more people to recycle through the thorny issue of introducing charging for the quantity of rubbish households produce or reducing household rubbish collection from once a week to once a fortnight.

Litter louts & stronger enforcement

I was out walking in a popular Worcester park last weekend when I was drawn to a number of items hanging from a small tree next to the footpath. At first sight these appeared to be just a collection of plastic bags that had got picked up by the wind and blown into the trees branches.

Nothing better than growing your own veg...

I love nothing better than pottering around in my garden during my spare time and have been busy in my vegetable plot planting seeds during the last few weeks. Not only do I find gardening relaxing and therapeutic but I don’t think you can beat the taste of your own grown vegetables or fruit!

Road Pricing has to happen!

I was reading in the paper the other day that an ex Worcester Mayor believes that climate change caused by human activities is nonsense and just part of the natural cycle of weather patterns. This follows a recent controversial documentary on Channel Four a few weeks which also rubbished claims that climate change is not a result of human actions.

My First Blog and the Housing Numbers Debate

Hi. I am Mark and I shall be blogging on environmental issues is Worcestershire. This may include discussing the big environmental topics of the day, providing commentary on local environmental issues or suggesting ways we can all reduce our own environmental footprint.
