AT a conference for clergy last week someone suggested that, in present circumstances, the term ‘safe as a bank’ would be a good working definition of a contradiction in terms.

I MOVED from Cambridgeshire to Worcester a few months ago. When I told people where I was going one of the most frequent responses was, ‘Oh, Lucky you: Three Choirs country.’ The Three Choirs Festival is one of the things that puts this city on the map and last week I was able to relish it myself for the first time.

ON July 24 I was one of more than 600 bishops from more than 130 countries who, together with their spouses and leaders of other Christian denominations and faiths, marched down Whitehall.

EARLIER this year Westminster cathedral hosted a series of lectures. Tony Blair’s on ‘faith and globalisation’ received the most publicity. The one by Mark Thompson, director general of the BBC on ‘faith and the media’ was not widely reported.

Faith schools are in the news following Ed Balls’ allegation that they operate exclusive admissions policies and the veteran Labour MP Frank Field describing Mr Balls’ criticism as “simply incomprehensible”.
