BUSINESS is certainly buzzing for Evesham contractors Buzz Electrical. Set up by local electrician Steve Owens 15 years ago, the firm from Cornmill Road now has a 21 strong workforce and has carved a niche on restoration as well as cutting edge projects. Obviously getting on the right side of the Almighty, it has earned a reputation after working on a large number of churches across the county, including All Saints in Evesham and St Andrews in Pershore, as well as currently being half way through a 12 month re-wire of Worcester Diocese headquarters at the Old Palace in Deansway, Worcester.

Mr Owens explained: "We have always been keen to train up new recruits and ‘grow our own’ talent in the business. Most notably, Helen Morrison who is now in her third year as an apprentice at Buzz and finishes her final exams this summer. Helen was nominated by national trainers JTL as an apprentice ambassador, which involved attending an event at the Houses of Parliament last year. Alongside Helen, Sam Kiliminster joined us 2013 and is also in his third year of his apprenticeship. Later in 2014, we aim to take on a school leaver as a new apprentice to continue this approach to employment and training. To date we have a total of nine school leavers working through recognised apprenticeships to fully qualified electricians in the Vale. "

As well as local clients, both domestic and corporate, such as the newly refurbished Broadway Hotel - and more recently the refurbishment of The Close Hotel in Tetbury - Buzz works with the public sector on projects like the Wychavon leisure centres at Pershore and Droitwich.

Mr Owens added: "Buzz has recently seen a rise in our testing and inspection work as a result of further investments in the company and launching BUZZ TECHNICAL, Electrical Testing & Inspection, which trades as Buzz Electrical Ltd. Safety in the workplace and the home is paramount. Making sure that all electrical systems are correctly designed, maintained and safe to use is imperative and the only way to ensure this is though testing and inspection. We have also recently become a registered ‘safe contractor’ and are on the Electrical Safe Register as well as being fully accredited members of Construction Line, a certification required by most local authorities."
