VISITORS to the Severn Valley Railway will be used to seeing its main attractions running on rails, but an array of four-wheeled transport will be the star of the show at its classic vehicle day on Sunday, July 27.

Alongside the heritage railway's collection of resident locomotives, which will be in full steam to take passengers along the line, the SVR will welcome an eclectic variety of classic vehicles of all ages, shapes and sizes.

Kidderminster station will be home to a collection of pre-war vehicles, which will be showcased under the concourse canopy, and the Engine House visitor centre will host a collection of mainly Tatra and Rootes Group classics.

Visitors can also admire the wide variety of vehicles, which will be on display at all six of the stations along the line: including Alvis and Vauxhall at Kidderminster, Triumph and Morris at Bewdley, Morgan and Austin at Arley, Ford and Hillman at Highley, Morris and Mini at Hampton Loade, and Riley, Sunbeam and MG at Bridgnorth.

Children can join in the fun with a special quiz, and families can hop on and off one of the steam trains, spotting the classic vehicles along the line. A full train service will be running throughout the day.

The event, which returned to the railway due to popular demand, has this year been moved forward from the autumn to the summer, and SVR’s marketing and communications manager, Clare Gibbard, said: “Classic Vehicle Day is always a highlight in our events calendar and, by moving it forward to July this year, we hope the weather will allow people to wander around and enjoy the spectacular selection of vehicles on display to the full,” she explained.

“Visitors can make a full day of it by travelling along the line and enjoying many of the other attractions on offer, such as The Engine House visitor centre, featuring our Peter’s Railway Young Engineers Centre as well as an array of full-sized locomotives.”
