YOUNG Enterprise business students from schools across south Worcestershire will line Worcester High Street on Saturday to test their selling and customer service skills.

It will be the second consecutive year the first phase of the Young Enterprise company programme competition has been held in the city centre, giving students a prime location to showcase the culmination of six months hard work.

Chairman of South Worcestershire’s Young Enterprise Board Paul Moult said: ”We are delighted that, after the phenomenal success of last year’s event and the busy footfall, our young entrepreneurs will yet again grace the High Street. With an array of really exciting products for sale it will be a real test for them to show off their merchandising and selling skills. We would also like to extend our thanks to the Mayor, Cllr Alan Amos for opening the event as well as the City Council for its help in allowing us to set up stalls in the High Street. We would urge the public to come along and grab themselves a bargain and at the same time support the aspiring entrepreneurs of the future.”

The Young Enterprise trade fair event is the initial stage of the competition in which students are judged by a panel of experienced business leaders, including experts in the retail sector. Marks awarded are then added to the second and third round results of the overall competition to be held later on in the spring.

Students representing city schools include the King’s School, Worcester Sixth Form College and making its debut, Christopher Whitehead Language College. Further afield The Chase and Malvern St. James will be representing Malvern while Prince Henry’s High School, Evesham will also be attending.

Items for sale include pre-packed boxes of local produce, wine racks, bird houses, decorative framed maps, scented candles, I-phone survival kits, slate products, wooden chopping boards and cheese boards. An array of innovative vinyl record products, Swedish fire logs, and reed scent diffusers will also be on sale and so much more.

The event will be officially opened by the Mayor at 10.00am.
