HEALTHCARE developer Prime, which is headquartered in Wildwood Drive, Worcester, has been shortlisted for two accolades in a major property awards scheme.

It has reached the final stages of the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors West Midlands Awards for its work on Biddulph Primary Care Centre in Staffordshire. Although based in Worcester, Prime’s specialist team of healthcare experts work on a national basis, and have delivered 96 new and refurbished healthcare projects across the UK, including the RICS nominated scheme in Biddulph.

The health centre’s innovative "figure-of-eight" design – which plays on the different heights of land across the site – has earned it a place in the list of regional finalists for the design through innovation’ category. The building was designed by another Worcester company, One Creative Environments Ltd, also of Wildwood Drive, working alongside Prime.

Bob Smaylen, development director at Prime said: “We won the community benefit category last year with Cobridge, so we will be hoping to successfully defend our title with our work on the Biddulph Primary Care Centre. It’s a landmark building in the heart of the town, which has delivered improved healthcare services to some 21,000 patients and been a catalyst for further redevelopment in the area. As we worked closely with the local community from the outset, there is a great sense of pride in what we were able to achieve together. The project is up against some stiff competition in the West Midlands but the primary care centre is a particularly innovative scheme which has revitalised part of the town centre and has clear benefits for the local area, so we will have fingers crossed on the night for a win or two.”

The regional RICS winners for the West Midlands will be announced at a ceremony at Birmingham’s Town Hall on Thursday, May 21.
