A FAMOUS fishing lake has hooked a £50,000 cash catch from Lloyds Bank.

Larford Lakes at Stourport-on-Severn, home of the annual Maver Mega Match on Sky Sports, has put the money towards a new caravan site for holidaymakers and visiting fishermen. The financial package has helped part-fund seven new static caravans at the venue, which has a business plans to increase its headcount and add to its current workforce of three.

The new caravans will give the business an additional source of revenue and will offer high-quality on-site accommodation to those taking part in its competitive events. It also provides a new option for holidaymakers looking to base themselves at a visually stunning location in the Worcestershire countryside.

Phil Briscoe, owner of Severn Sports and Leisure, said: “We’re pleased to open the doors to our new caravan site, as it’s been long-standing objective to add high-quality accommodation to our Larford Lakes site.

“The new caravans provide an important new revenue stream, and it will help us continue to grow the business as we look to increase the number of caravans we can host, allowing us to welcome even more fisherman and holidaymakers in the years to come.”

Philip Hyde, relationship manager at Lloyds Bank Commercial Banking, said: “Larford Lakes has established a reputation as one of Britain’s premier fishing destinations, and is the ideal location for quality temporary accommodation in this area of outstanding natural beauty. This investment is part of an ambitious expansion plan developed by the management team at Severn Sports and Leisure, and we’re looking forward to continuing our long-standing relationship with them as the business continues to expand. In line with this, we have pledged to grow our net lending to small businesses by £1billion every year until the end of 2017.”

Larford Lakes comprises three lakes – the Specimen, the Match and the Arena – and is widely regarded as offering some of the best fishing on the River Severn. Its Maver Mega Match is the richest event on the UK competitive fishing calendar.

The venue also includes an 80-seat café, serving breakfasts, lunches and snacks seven days a week. The new caravans are finished to a high specification and can accommodate up to six people each, with amenities including flat-screen TVs, double glazing and central heating.
