A GO-TO event for young people about to enter the workplace will take place in Worcester on Thursday, October 15.

Worcestershire Apprenticeship Show on Worcester Racecourse is being organised by Worcestershire County Council with doors open from 1pm to 7pm.

The County Council has been working with Worcestershire Training Providers Association, Worcestershire Local Enterprise Partnership and the Skills Funding Agency under the Worcestershire Apprenticeship initiative to encourage young people to take up an apprenticeship to enter their chosen career. The event will provide students with a unique opportunity to meet some of the major local colleges, training providers and businesses to find out more about apprenticeships.

Simon Geraghty, deputy leader and cabinet member for economy, skills and infrastructure said: "Young people are not obligated to go to university; they can choose their future and can learn and earn as an apprentice. The County Council and our partners have been working hard to develop the number of 16-24 years Apprenticeships across Worcestershire, as one of our priorities is ensuring the economic growth of the county by increasing the number and range of apprenticeships to meet the local economic needs, and a highly skilled workforce is crucial to achieving this aim. The Worcestershire Apprenticeship Show will provide the perfect opportunity for young people to meet and learn about the apprenticeships employers have to offer."

According to the Sutton Trust, young people who enrol on apprenticeships are likely to learn more during the course of their careers than university graduates.
