COTSWOLD pub operators Pack Taverns is expanding after buying the Swan Inn.

The Ascott-under-Wychwood pub has been purchased after being put on the market at £599,500 for the freehold, with the deal been brokered by Colliers International.

The pub has space for dining along with a function room, and seven letting bedrooms with room for expansion.

Set up in 2015, Pack Taverns is run by Charlie and Willow Crossley, who already operate the popular Bull at Charlbury.

Colliers International hotels director Peter Brunt said the newly-established pub company had successfully revamped The Bull and was expecting a similarly effective makeover at the Swan.

“Set in an affluent Cotswolds village, the Swan ticks all the boxes for people looking for a good business in one of the most popular visitor destinations in the country,” he said.

“Charlie and Willow have done a great job at The Bull and their new purchase is a short distance away.”

Mr Brunt said the fact Ascott had a railway station meant London Paddington was just one and a half hours away bringing the pub within comfortable commuting distance of the capital.

“The seven letting bedrooms have added an extra dimension to the premises and there is scope for adding another room,” Mr Brunt said.

“In addition there is a popular function room along with owners’ accommodation and office facilities.”

The Swan had been closed when the current owners Richard Haddon and Michiel Verkoren bought it, relaunching in 2013 during a break from their careers in the theatre.

Renovation work was focused on the function room – which was opened by then Prime Minister David Cameron in February 2014.

Mr Brunt concluded: “The Swan has a fascinating history and we wish Pack Taverns every success taking it forward.”
