A WORCESTER chip shop, which was hit by a devastating fire five years ago, is now thriving with the launch of a new scheme.

Seacrest Fish Bar, in London Road, was ran by Andreas Mougis for nearly three decades, before selling it to new owners.

But in 2012 there was a devastating fire in the shop which forced it to close for more than a year.

Andreas' son, Costas, was living at the time with his wife in a flat above and they too were forced to leave after the fire.

After the shop reopened, it was bought in 2014 by Costas.

Mr Mougis said: "My parents first bought the Seacrest in 1977 and ran it for over 28 years.

"I purchased the shop and set about restoring it to its former glory - as I grew up here I wanted to see it thriving again."

The shop is now introducing a chip shop loyalty card scheme, in which customers can collect stamps to get a free portion of chips.

Mr Mourgis claims it is the first scheme in the city, and is already proving a hit with customers.

"We wanted to give something back to our customers for their loyalty and to offer something to new customers.

"The response has been amazing and most of our customers now present their loyalty cards when buying their meals."
