Now for gold and platinum

A WORCESTER florist has won a top award in a national contest to find the best flower shop in the United Kingdom.

Beautiful Flowers, in New Street, been handed a Silver Award of Excellence from the Flower Council of Holland, and is now hoping for gold and platinum success later in the year.

Florist Katherine Bujanszki said: "This is the first time we have entered and I am really delighted to have been gíven a silver award.

"It is a great achievement to reach this stage and great for Worcester to have been recognised as having one of the most unique and contemporary florist shops in the United Kingdom.'' Hundreds of shops entered the Flower Shop of the Year 2007 Awards and 55 won silver awards.

Beautiful Flowers, which is based in a 16th century building, is now entering the gold stage of the contest, and if successful will then enter the platinum round.

The eventual national champion, to be announced in January, will receive £5,000 to develop their business.

To be given silver award status the florists at Beautiful Flowers had to demonstrate knowledge, expertise and understanding in several key areas, including retail planning, sales, marketing initiatives and business development.

Mrs Bujanszki, who comes from New Zealand and has previously worked as a florist in London's Mayfair, said: "The business is now in its third year and is blooming. We have a wide range of customers and have proved that flowers are not just for the ladies, as we have many male fans as well.

"We have become renowned for our stunning contemporary designs and the exceptional quality of our exotic flowers and plants."
