FIFTEEN businesses and organisations from across Herefordshire and Worcestershire have been honoured in this year’s Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents Occupational Health and Safety Awards.
The RoSPA Awards, which are now in their 53rd year, recognise organisations’ commitment to protecting the health and well being of their employees and others.
Among the successful organisations were ROXEL (UK Rocket Motors), of Kidderminster, which won an Order of Distinction for 15 consecutive gold awards, and Special Metals Wiggin, of Hereford, which won a President’s Award for 12 consecutive gold awards.
It was another record-breaking year in the awards scheme, with more than 1,650 businesses and organisations honoured.
Tom Mullarkey, RoSPA chief executive, said: “Health and safety tends to hit the headlines in the aftermath of major accidents or when it is deemed to have ‘gone too far’.
“But the reality is that millions of sensible safety decisions are taken across the country each day which actually prevent countless accidents and the suffering they cause.
“The RoSPA Occupational Health and Safety Awards are a way of rewarding and highlighting those whose daily contribution keeps us safe and healthy, and we congratulate winners for the commitment they have shown to continuous improvement in this sphere.”
Other Worcestershire and Herefordshire winners included gold awards for DHL Exel Supply Chain of Droitwich; CB Richard Ellis of CrownGate Shopping Centre, Worcester; Allen Gears (Allen Gearing Solutions) of Pershore; Coca-Cola Enterprises of Colwall; Costain of the University of Worcester campus; QinetiQ of Malvern and DHL Distribution Centre of Shire Business Park, Worcester.
There were silver awards for Chalcroft Construction of Pershore; Worcester Action for Safety Partnership (WASP); Severn Trent Water of Worcester; Trills Services of Bromsgrove and Home Delivery Network of Droitwich.
Bronze awards went to Ryder Intier Contract of Redditch and Elisabeth the Chef of Worcester.
