A JOBSEEKER has overcome personal adversity to land regular work with a little help from his old school.

Adrian Cutler, of Malvern, polished up his skills to get a new job at his old school after talking to advisers from Jobcentre Plus and the Shaw Trust.

The 28-year-old, who suffers with an autistic spectrum disorder and dyslexia, had struggled to find the right kind of work environment to support him and although he had several periods of training and work experience, none of them had been suitable for him.

To help him with his job search, Sally Baume, a Jobcentre disability employment adviser, referred Adrian to the Worksteps programme, which is run by the Shaw Trust.

The programme offered Mr Cutler tailored support including job coaching and mentoring to help him land a job at Hanley Castle High School, near Upton-upon-Severn.

After undergoing training, Mr Cutler’s trust worker Jo Goode, suggested he apply for cleaning job at the school and after interviews he was offered the role.

He is now working 16 hours a week and receiving continuing support from the trust.

Mr Cutler said: “I’m thrilled with my new job.

“Jo is helping me look for more hours but at the moment I am just happy to have a role.”
