A WORCESTER apprentice has received a great start to the new year – a permanent employment contract.

The offer came as Martin Priddey, aged 20, successfully completed a three-year apprenticeship with garage group Nationwide Autocentre.

Mr Priddey has been training at the Nationwide Autocentre at The Butts, Worcester, since 2006 and has now received his NVQ Level 3 and technical certificate from the firm’s chief operations officer Bill Duffy.

He was one of more than 30 apprentices to receive permanent contracts with the company at the ceremony at its Solihull headquarters.

Mr Duffy said: “Our apprentice scheme has been running for many, many years and has benefited literally hundreds of talented and enthusiastic young people.

“Now that Martin has this qualification he can work for us as a technician and go on to train as an MOT tester or join the management training scheme if he wishes.

“As with all of our technicians, he will also go on to become an accredited technician under the voluntary automotive technician accreditation scheme.

“We’re extremely proud of our record with apprentices. At any one time, we have about 200 working within the business and we are proud that every single one who we have trained over the past five years has been offered permanent employment with us.

“We are always looking for outstanding mechanics and plan to recruit a further 60 next year.”

Mr Priddey said: “A career in mechanics is a secure one. There is a lot of demand for the apprenticeship places, so I’m proud to have been chosen.

“I’ve really enjoyed learning the skills and it’s the best start to the new year I could have asked for.”
