AN ice cream company in Worcestershire has launched an alternative Valentine’s treat for romantic couples.
Instead of the usual gifts of roses and chocolates, Churchfields Farmhouse Ice Cream in Salwarpe, near Droitwich, have come up with a new flavoured product. To top off that Valentine’s supper, the company has come up with its new rose ice cream, which is launched just in time for Sunday, February 14.
Churchfields are well known for their innovative ice cream flavours, with their unique Seriously Stilton ice cream having won several prestigious food awards, but proprietor Gillian Kerton is always looking for market opportunities for new products. The company supplies farm shops, delis, pubs and restaurants across Worcestershire and beyond, with its products made from its constant supply of milk and cream from their herd of pedigree cows.
Using a carefully judged mix of milk and cream gives the ice cream a thick, creamy unique texture that has a distinct advantage over supermarket competitor products as it is literally fresh from the dairy.
Mrs Kerton said: “Mildly scented flavours such as lavender and rose seem to be quite popular at the moment. While I’ve seen these flavours adopted in cakes and other confectionery, I haven’t seen it as an ice cream flavour in any of the shops or supermarkets offered by the luxury brands, such as Ben & Jerry’s and Haagen-Dazs, for example.
“The new rose ice cream is made from authentic rose essence and has a pink blush tinge and a very delicate flavour. It can be served as an ideal accompaniment to blackberries, strawberries, raspberries or peaches, but is also fantastic by itself.”
Mrs Kerton added: “We’re hoping to add it to our standard range if it proves to be popular. The other way you can enjoy it, is perhaps after a cheese course, as it clears the palate in the same way as a scoop of sorbet does. Either way, we feel there’s a discerning audience out there who will really enjoy the subtle and sophisticated flavour.”
