NOW you can get fit the way Rocky did in the eponymous fight-game film.
Boxing classes at a new centre in Worcester are aimed at people of all ages, backgrounds, abilities and fitness levels.
The Boxing Fitness Training Centre will open at 28 The Tything in Worcester at the beginning of next month. Owner and boxing trainer Anthony Glackin said the centre offers authentic training used by real boxers to build up people’s fitness with no obligation or pressure on them to box competitively. He said specially designed headgear would provide extra protection to the whole of the face and head of anyone taking part.
Mr Glackin said the classes were different from boxercise in that people were trained in exactly the same way as a boxer by people who knew about the sport. The majority of people who attend such classes, that are run by – boxfitness.co.uk – are aged between 30 and 50.
Rocky, the 1976 movie starring Sylvester Stallone charted a small-time boxers rise to a world championship bout. The film included inspirational scenes of Rocky’s fitness campaign.
The new boxing classes are available for beginners and they include stance, guard, foot work, jab, cross, hook and upper cut techniques. Intermediate level membership entails an increased range of punches, and for more experienced people there is extra training, including bobbing and weaving and combinations. The centre is set to open on Monday, March 1.
