A SMALL Worcestershire web design company is at the heart of a big national advertising campaign featuring Cat Deeley.

Phenotype, based in Great Malvern, was commissioned by the National Magazine Company, home to Cosmopolitan magazine, to create a digital creative piece for its client, Pantene Pro-V to launch a new Pantene product line, Aqua Light.

The campaign is built around the concept of ‘Make a Swisssh’ and members of the public can upload videos and pictures of themselves ‘swishing’ their hair.

The best so-called swissshes posted online at make-a-swisssh.com are entered into monthly competitions to win holiday prizes and tickets to the Clothes Show Birmingham. Viewers are directed to the website at the end of the television advert.

More than 300 swissshes have been uploaded since the website was launched earlier this month.

Phenotype was set up four years ago by award-winning Malvern designer Sam Collett.

It has built a growing, impressive portfolio of clients including Channel Five, BskyB, Nike and Paramount Pictures.

Using open source technology, the firm is able to keep clients’ costs down and provide a reliable friendly service.

Mr Collett said: “We are not a traditional agency but a network of smaller companies or ‘pods’. Each pod is small, often just one or two people, which is a specialist in one aspect of the digital realm.

“So, for example, we have a team whose specialty is open source software, another that creates e-mail delivery and reporting.

“This means for each project that comes along I can put together a ‘dream team’ for that one project.

“The dream team that I put together differs from what many agencies do, and also other larger freelance based companies.”
