BUSINESS advisers in Worcestershire are being alerted to changes to pension law which mean they have their last chance to save tax.

A free talk will provide a two-for-one evening followed by a workshop on tax planning for family companies.

It is part of a series of business finance workshops in Worcester in which members of the Institute of Chartered Accountants will meet on Tuesday, March 1, at Worcestershire County Cricket Club’s ground in New Road.

Pension deadlines to contribute funds fall in April so the talk will help accountants to better advise business clients.

Eddy Woore, of pension consultants Mattioli Woods, said: “People have a last chance for large contributions which could mean substantial personal tax relief or corporation tax relief, as well as ways to maximise use of new contribution limits.

“We will also discuss flexible drawdown – freedom to spend pension capital and ways to mitigate death taxes.”

Celia Adams, chairman of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Worcestershire, said: “This is a hot topic which could save considerable funds and includes urgent actions for those advising businesses on pensions. This event is one not to miss along with the presentation on tax planning for family companies which immediately follows.”

The pension address runs from 5pm-6pm before the start of key workshop which follows on tax planning for family companies by Pat Nown. That will run from 6.30pm to 8pm. The tax planning workshop costs £31, excluding VAT.

Online bookings can be made at icaew.com/westmidlands Further courses will be held throughout February and March covering capital gains and other tax issues.
