COMPANIES and individuals who have championed the cause of corporate social responsibility (CSR) were recognised for their work at Worcestershire Ambassadors’ CSR Awards ceremony at Worcester’s Sixways stadium.

In front of more than 150 guests from the business community, the winners were announced and applauded for their commitment and achievement in developing CSR across Worcestershire.

The judges’ reports said they were particularly impressed by the winners’ long-term commitment and ways in which CSR is integrated into their lives and businesses on a daily basis.

The winner of the environmental category was the Little Soap Company, of Bretforton, near Evesham; the workplace and staff category went to Hereford-shire and Worcestershire Chamber of Commerce; the community category was won by the Community Housing Group, of Foley Business Park, Kidder-minster; and the winner of the individual category was Worcestershire county councillor Lucy Hodgson for her community work in Worcester.

A special recognition award was also made to Sarah Rook, who is the chair of Broadwaters Resident Action Group, Kidderminster. The awards were presented by Worcester MP Robin Walker.

Emma Heathcote-James, founder of the Little Soap Company, said: “CSR is an integral part of what we do and the attitudes we adopt.

“It’s not about meeting the minimum legal requirements or relentlessly waving the green eco-flag, but taking a responsible attitude and following straightforward principles that apply whatever the size of your business so that you can sleep soundly at night knowing what you are doing is the correct thing to do.”

Phil Dutton, chairman of the Worcestershire Ambassadors, said: “Being able to recognise and applaud these champions of our community, many of whom have too often gone unrecognised is very important.”
