MP impressed with plans for a bright future

BLACKPOLE company Aeromet, which is set to receive Government support for a project which should create many jobs, has received a visit from Worcester MP Robin Walker.

The company specialises in the production of high strength alloys, creating flawless castings for the aerospace and defence industries, and Mr Walker was told how its castings are used by a number of the big names in the aerospace industry from Boeing and Airbus to Embraer and Lockheed Martin.

There were also presentations from the company’s chief executive officer Jeff Smith and its business development director Alan Dustan, as well as a tour of the factory floor with operations director Simon Holliday.

Aeromet has plans to develop a new aluminium copper alloy, A20X, which is stronger than its competitors, and has applied for funding to invest in research and taking on new specialist staff.

The company estimates that it could create at least 20 high skilled jobs at its Worcester facility over the next five years and many more elsewhere and in its value chain.

It also plans to take on its first apprentices in 2012.

The project is getting support from the Government’s regional growth fund.

Mr Walker, a Conservative backbencher, said: “It is fantastic to know we have such an innovative, world-beating business here in Worcester as Aeromet.

“It is very exciting to hear about their plans and growth potential.

“These are just the kind of highly skilled, high value-added jobs that we want to see coming to Worcester and I am very enthusiastic about the Government’s support for this project.

“Worcester has a long tradition of leading the way in metal casting and foundries.

“I am very pleased Aeromet is keeping that tradition alive and maintaining the pace of innovation.”
