THE redevelopment of the former council treasurer’s site in Church Street, Malvern, has been highly commended in this year’s national Housebuilder Awards.

Developer McCarthy and Stone was up against six firms in the best community initiative category.

It was commended for its two-tiered programme that saw it engage with more than 70 stakeholders and residents and invited them to influence the proposals at every stage.

Richard Williams, regional managing director for McCarthy and Stone, said: “We are proud to have been recognised by the awards.

“We were overwhelmed by the public endorsement which we received and delighted that no formal objections were made by the local community.

“We strongly believe that it is important to involve people living locally in the planning process and by doing this in Malvern we have received a warm welcome and a significant contribution from the local community towards the plans for our new development.”
