Olympic glory is up for grabs

THE chance to get a slice of Olympic glory is up for grabs to businesses in Worcester.

The Olympic Torch will be arriving in the city on Thursday, May 24, and contracts are available for a range of services needed for the occasion, including marketing, filming and the supply of crowd barriers.

VisitWorcester, which is leading the organisation of events around the torch’s arrival, has formed a partnership with Finditinworcester shire to advertise the Olympic business opportunities.

Details of the first contract are available now with more due to be added in the next few weeks.

Kathryn Wagstaff, project manager of Finditinworcest ershire, said: “It’s fantastic that we are able to support county businesses in this way by acting as a gateway to Olympic opportunities.

“It goes to show that there are real local benefits to be had by local companies.”

Georgia Smith, head of VisitWorcester, said: “The Olympic Torch is an iconic symbol that generates worldwide interest wherever it goes and we want to see local businesses benefit from the fantastic opportunities it creates.”

Businesses on the route are also being encouraged to get involved by displaying celebratory bunting.

Worcester is the first place in the West Midlands to receive the Olympic Torch on day six of the Torch Relay – a 70-day tour of 1,018 locations around the UK.

It will be carried through the city by a team of inspirational torchbearers to a celebration event at Worcestershire County Cricket Club marking the occasion, before staying overnight.
