THE race is on to find a county girl with enough style, talent and glamour to be crowned Miss Worcester 2007.

Beautiful women have the chance to become the queen of the city, with the winner going on to represent Worcester in Miss England.

The contest is open to anyone aged between 17-24 who lives in Worcestershire and is unmarried at the time of the Miss World final in September.

The final 10 entrants will be chosen by Worcester News readers and will take part in a gala event at Worcester Racecourse on Saturday, May 5.

The finalists will have to prove themselves in front of a special panel of judges - where they will be asked why they should be Miss Worcester 2007.

Last year Selina Nicole-Lavictoire, aged 21, of Nelson Road, St John's, was crowned Miss Worcestershire 2006.

She said: "It was experience that I will never regret - I still get recognised in the streets every couple of weeks.

"The girls have got to be prepared to put a lot of effort in and talk to all different types of people.

"Miss England is a big thing and it's a good opportunity for someone. Since winning Miss Worcestershire in 2006, things have gone quite fast, but I enjoyed it. I managed to raise some money for charity during the year, so I was pleased.

"I never really expected to win and only entered as a bit of a joke myself. I'm looking forward to helping select a winner."

The Worcester News has once again teamed up with the Worcester Racecourse to bring the competition to the city. Phil Carey, marketing manager for the racecourse, said: "This is the second year we have run the event, and with the enthusiasm and quality of girls from last year still in memory, we are looking forward to another fantastic night."
