AN investigating is continuing into the death of a toddler who was knocked over by a taxi a week before Christmas.

Cameron Simpson died on Tuesday, December 18, after being in collision with a Blue Door mini-bus taxi in Meadow Road, Droitwich, at 4.30pm.

Following the death of the three-year-old, teddy bears and flowers were left at the scene by friends and family and many tributes remain there today.

At an inquest into his death opened on Thursday, December 20 the cause of death was given as a cerebral oedema - an excess of water on the brain - and "blunt trauma" to the head and chest.

The inquest heard Cameron died having had "just exited a taxi with his mother. He walked in front of the vehicle as it was pulling away and was knocked to the ground".

The inquest was adjourned for reports.

Cameron's mother Kerry Simpson, aged 23, of Meadow Walk, Droitwich, is expecting to receive police reports about the accident in the next couple of weeks and is trying to stay strong for her 16-month-old daughter Cassidy.

"The whole family is trying to stay strong," she said.

A spokesman for South Worcester police said: "The investigation is on-going".

Cameron was the second cousin of 18-year-old Kyle Gadsby, one of the four teenagers who died in a crash on the A449 in December 2006. The inquest into Kyle's death had finished the day before Cameron was knocked over.
