Colley bouyed by Malaysia mission
NICK Colley has vowed to fight for his place in the Worcester City team after ret-urning from Malaysia with the England Futsal squad.
The midfielder started four of the national side's five matches in Kuala Lumpar at the KL World 5s in which England finished bottom of their group before losing to China in the bowl final.
But tomorrow he will be back at St George's Lane for the visit of Hucknall Town aiming to force his way into manager Richard Dryden's thinking.
Although it is a million miles from where he was last weekend, Colley is glad to be home.
He said: "It's a different scenario but one I am looking forward to because 11-a-side is what I know best.
"I just want to get back to doing well for my team.
"I got back in the team before I went and I have got to work hard to get back in."
Returning to playing in front of a crowd of around 800 is also likely to be a shock to the system.
Colley said: "Three of our five matches were live on Asian TV, watched by 300 million, and the other two were recorded and shown in the evening.
"Everywhere we went we were in pictures.
"We had a walk around Kuala Lumpar city centre and there was a big flat screen TV and we were on it."
England lost all four of their group games against Argentina (12-1), Indonesia (7-2), Australia (6-1) and Malaysia (6-2) as well as their play-off against China (7-3).
Colley, who has been capped 14 times by his country for Futsal, hit the crossbar four times in the competition and believes the team has much to be proud of.
He said: "It was amazing and the scores don't reflect how well we did.
"We were playing against the best teams in the world and we acquitted ourselves well.
"Even at my age I am still learning.
"It's going to take a long time to get anywhere near the top 30 teams in the world - England are ranked 110th.
"We went out for the experience and to see if we could give them a decent game and for long spells in games we had all the possession.
"We are still light years behind the rest of the world but the FA are throwing so much money at Futsal to get it right.
"We are the ones that are coming forward and getting better so 12-1 against Argentina, who are the third best team in the world, is not a bad result for someone like England."
