Magoffin poised to complete pace team

STEVE Magoffin is today set to complete his move to Wor-cestershire as the County's overseas player for the first half of the season.
The Worcester News reveal-ed yesterday on thisiswccc.co.uk that the Western Warriors seamer was poised to join the New Road club in April.
The County are declining to comment about the Magoffin signing at the moment, but it is thought that director of cricket Steve Rhodes has secured the final piece of his jigsaw for the 2008 campaign.
The 28-year-old 6ft 4in right-arm seamer will join the 2007 NatWest Pro40 champions in April for three months before being replaced by West Indies pace ace Fidel Edwards for the remainder of the campaign in July.
Magoffin, who is under the guidance of former Worces-tershire director of cricket Tom Moody at the Warriors, played for Surrey and Leices-tershire seconds last summer and has 124 first class wickets at 28.13 to his name.
The Queensland-born quick has had a decent Pura Cup campaign taking 14 wickets at 27.21 and, having already ex-perienced the early part of the county season, Rhodes will be hoping Magoffin adapts quickly to English conditions.
His biggest wicket haul in England came last April when he took 4-58 in 8.2 overs in an early Friends Provident Tro-phy match against Kent.
With the addition of the Aussie seamer, skipper Vik-ram Solanki now has to decide how he will utilise his attack.
Rhodes has spoken about careful management of injury victims Matt Mason and Si-mon Jones as they look get back to their devastating best. Youngsters Gareth Andrew and Chris Whelan will need nurturing as they look to stake their claims.
Kabir Ali shouldered the burden of the Worcestershire fast bowling last term but, if the County have their seam attack fit and firing, the workload is likely to be shared around a great deal more.
The New Road director of cricket promised last term that he was planning to overhaul his bowling department during the winter and Rhodes has delivered.
He has released Roger Sil-lence, Nadeem Malik, Dewald Nel and Stuart Wedge, while Doug Bollinger has not been asked to return following a disappointing summer.
With five let go, Rhodes has gone out and replaced them with players capable of forming one of the most lethal attacks on the county circuit.
Magoffin is thought to have come highly recommended by Moody and Edwards will add further venom to the attack.
