£8m Sixways stand given green light

DELIGHTED Worcester Warriors bosses have welcomed the news that their ambitious plans for an £8m extension to their Sixways ground can go ahead.

An extension to the east stand which will allow nearly 2,000 extra rugby fans to watch the team play at the stadium was given the green light by Wychavon district councillors today.

Worcester Rugby Football Club officials believe the move - coupled with the work already underway on a replacement North stand, Esporta Health and Racquets Club, and a car park - will help put the club on the map.

Chairman Cecil Duckworth said: "We're delighted that the plans have been accepted by the local authority as it will take our facilities a quantum leap forward.

"The plan is for work to start very soon with the new extended stand in place for the beginning of next season.

"The new East Stand will house 6,000 Warriors supporters and the noise and atmosphere will be electric."
