Council agrees reprieve for disabled man
 |
| ONE MORE YEAR: George Ludlow |
THE mother of an autistic man is celebrating after Worcestershire County Council agreed he could stay put for at least another year.
Your Worcester News reported earlier this month how the family of George Ludlow was locked in a dispute with the county council about his care.
Twenty-four-year-old Mr Ludlow has been living at a residential home in Stroud, Gloucestershire, for the past four years, but the council wanted to move him into supported living, which his mother said was "completely inappropriate".
Now, following a meeting between the council and Mr Ludlow's parents, it has been agreed that he can stay at the home in Stroud until the end of January 2009, at least.
His situation will be reviewed each year from then on.
Mr Ludlow's mother, Lynn Ludlow of Bishampton, near Pershore, said: "We are so delighted that the council has agreed to leave him be. It is really important that George stays where he is settled and comfortable.
"He has a lot of friends where he is and also attends college."
Mrs Ludlow added: "We want to thank the Worcester News for helping to highlight our plight and we really feel this helped us."
Mrs Ludlow said her son needed constant care, and said the home where he was living now was perfect.
Joe Warner, community services manager, met with Mr Ludlow's parents to discuss their concerns. He told them Mr Ludlow would have his own tenancy and would share with one or two other people.
A council spokesman said: "Mr and Mrs Ludlow were clearly anxious about George moving and after further discussion it was decided that, further work was needed with the family.
"Mr Warner explained that George's needs would be reviewed at least yearly in line with Government requirements, and that Mr and Mrs Ludlow would be involved in all reviews."
